Scripture Union understands that the Bible is man’s primary place of encounter with God. This is where we meet God and hear Him address us. Here God tells us what He is like. The Bible tells us the Big Story of God’s dealings with His world and with all humankind.

Therefore, Scripture Union’s Bible Ministry underpins all our activities. Interaction with the Bible is at the core of all we do with children, young people and adults. We encourage those who are not yet followers of Jesus to discover Him in His Word. We seek to help believers to become deeply rooted in the Word of God, exploring day by day how this Word meets our deepest needs and gives us courage to live each day as citizens of God’s Kingdom.

What Scripture Union believes about God’s Word:

  • Both Old and New Testament Scriptures are God-breathed; their writers spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit;
  •  The Scriptures are fully trustworthy in all they say - we can believe them;
  •  The Scriptures are our highest authority for faith and life.

The authority of the Bible over us derives from the authority of God, the Author of His Word. As God’s word, the Bible speaks authoritatively into every aspect of life, calling on us to listen and obey. Psalm 119:105 tells us “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Down the centuries and in every culture God has continued to direct and illumine humankind through the Bible. Scripture Union Bible reading guides can help you to engage with Scripture:

  • Regularly – encouraging the habit of Bible reflection.

The Bible reading guides are available in our Scripture Union Book Centres and other leading Christian bookshops countrywide.

Scripture Union trains the writers of our Bible guides and church members in effective Bible use.

Prayer Bulletin

  • We thank God for receiving a new batch of Proclaimers for the Faith Comes by Hearing programme. We pray that the implementation of the new phase will be a success.
  •  We thank God for the successful end of the first wave of the Families Matter Programme. We pray that the implementation of the second wave will be successful.
  •  Pray for the successful implementation of the SAIDIA life skills programme in schools and churches.
  • Pray for more partners to support the  Bible clubs in primary schools and for strengthening of the clubs.
  •  Pray for more partners for the Jesus Film project.
  •  Continue to pray for the new National Director as she continues to discharge her responsibilities.
  •  “Fund raising is people raising” – pray for more people to stand with us in this ministry.
  •  Continue to pray for the implementation of the new constitution, which is likely to affect our work in schools.
  •  Pray for peace and stability in the country, and for reconciliation to take place.
  •  Pray for our economy to heal and grow, in the face of challenges facing many in the country today.
